Weekly writing prompts

Some weeks the hardest part of writing home is knowing where to start. The weekly writing prompt is an optional email that gives your missionary a gentle nudge — a couple of ideas to write about — so a blank page never gets in the way of a good letter.

It's off by default. Your missionary turns it on themselves, and can turn it off again any time.

What it is

Once a week, your missionary gets a short email with a few ideas for their letter home, at three levels:

1. An every-week reminder — a constant nudge that the people they serve, the challenges and successes they're having, and what they're learning are always worth writing about. This one is always there.
2. This week's Come, Follow Me — an idea tied to that week's reading, with a link to the study block, so it doubles as a study thought.
3. A prompt of the week — a rotating question from a bank of mission-experience prompts ("Tell about a time you felt guided to someone").

Levels 2 and 3 follow the prompt types your missionary chose (story, Come, Follow Me, or both — see Turning it on). With both, they get the Come, Follow Me idea plus one mission-experience prompt; with story, two mission-experience prompts; and on weeks with no set scripture block, the Come, Follow Me idea is swapped for a mission-experience prompt.

Below the ideas, the same email also shows:

• A quick look at their current settings — preparation day, letter design, and area — so they can see what's on file at a glance.
• One-tap links to change something — swap the design, move their P-day, update their area, ask for a different prompt, or turn the emails off.

The prompts don't get written into a letter automatically — they're just ideas. Your missionary writes home the same way they always do (see What you can do by email).

When it arrives

The email lands the evening before your missionary's preparation day, in their local time — since P-day is usually the day there's time to write. Mission Broadcast works out the time zone from the mission area on file, so there's nothing to set up beyond choosing the P-day.

Turning it on

Your missionary opens Account → Site Settings and:

1. Ticks Email me a weekly writing prompt — that reveals the rest.
2. Picks their Preparation day (P-day) from the dropdown.
3. Chooses which prompts to include — story, Come, Follow Me, or both (both is the default).
4. Saves.

That's it. If they'd rather not visit the console, everything can be changed by email instead — see the Weekly writing prompts commands (including set-prompts@ to switch between story / Come, Follow Me / both).

Turning it off

Either untick the box in Site Settings, or send a short email to stop-prompts@<your-domain>. It stops right away, and can be turned back on whenever they like.
